✨December Musings and Offerings✨

✨December...the winter solstice...the return of the light✨

As much as I love summer, I savor the quiet and introspection that winter calls us to.

May you tuck in, rest and listen deeply to learn what your soul longs for this winter season.

As you welcome back the light with the winter solstice, may you also open to new opportunities to come fully to life in this season and new year.

Your deep inner work and healing is for all of us🙏💕

✨✨✨✨

The weather is a friend if you make it one.

I look forward to the gray, quiet time for solitude,

contemplation, leading long conversations with friends.

Colors are softer, sounds have more depth,

the pace is gentler.

Instead of resentment at the lack of sun,

snuggle into the gray velvet quilt and make yourself a cup of tea.

I just cannot let an opportunity pass to invite you to yoga nidra !

Big Lesson

Today it feels so simple:

we are here to take care of each other.

How could we ever forget?

As if soil could forget

it is here to feed the trees.

As if trees could forget

they are here to feed the soil.

How could anything

ever get in the way of generosity?

How could we ever greet each other

with any words besides,

How can I help you?

As if light could forget

it is here to help illuminate.

As if dark could forget

it is here to help us heal.

Work With Me

It is very empowering to me to realize that we are each essential parts of this cosmic tapestry, and all we need to do is to be fully who we are! Each of us is a gift!

One missing link in individual healing can be the presence of an empathic witness, one who can listen and hold space for you to see the truth of who you are.

It would be an honor to partner with you as you find and shine your unique light into the world.

If this resonates, let's work together!

Adrift

Everything is beautiful and I am so sad.
This is how the heart makes a duet of
wonder and grief.

The light spraying
through the lace of the fern is as delicate
as the fibers of memory forming their web
around the knot in my throat.

The breeze
makes the birds move from branch to branch
as this ache makes me look for those I’ve lost
in the next room, in the next song, in the laugh
of the next stranger.

 In the very center, under
it all, what we have that no one can take
away and all that we’ve lost face each other.\

It is there that I’m adrift, feeling punctured
by a holiness that exists inside everything.
I am so sad and everything is beautiful.

~Mark Nepo

THE FOURTH SIGN OF THE ZODIAC (PART 3)

I know, you never intended to be in this world.
But you’re in it all the same.

So why not get started immediately.

I mean, belonging to it.
There is so much to admire, to weep over.

And to write music or poems about.

Bless the feet that take you to and fro.
Bless the eyes and the listening ears.
Bless the tongue, the marvel of taste.
Bless touching.

You could live a hundred years, it’s happened.
Or not.
I am speaking from the fortunate platform
of many years,
none of which, I think, I ever wasted.
Do you need a prod?
Do you need a little darkness to get you going?
Let me be as urgent as a knife, then,
and remind you of Keats,
so single of purpose and thinking, for a while,
he had a lifetime.

~ Mary Oliver

Work With Me

"As counter-intuitive as it may seem, slowing down is often the very thing that reconnects you to your sense of momentum and purpose.

"Like pulling back the arrow in the bow and holding that tension until the target is clear, if we really want to make an eloquent offering of our lives, we have to step out of the ‘call and response’ relationship with the external world and locate our source of guidance within.

To hear the rhythm of your indigenous song, to fall in step with the poetry of your unfolding, first there must be a clearing away: a temenos of simplicity in which to dwell.

Strike a holy grove of silence where you can listen as you long to be heard, see as you long to be seen, recognize where you are relevant, needed and necessary in the Family of Things."

~ Toko-pa Turner

As you move into the stillness of winter and the busy-ness of the holidays, I hope you can make time for balance.

Embrace the paradox-allow sacred beauty to coexist with sacred sadness

Bless yourself and see how much easer it becomes to bless everything

Settle into the season with the willingness and courage to see the inner work asking to be done and devote your whole heart to doing it with grace

Create the space you need to heal

Take gentle care of your beautiful heart.

I am grateful for you all

🍂October Musings and Offerings🍂

 Hi Everyone!

WOW- Autumn is coming fast here on the East Coast. Actually time seems to be flying in general lately...but I wonder if it is because there is so much busy-ness in my head and in the world.

I've heard that one of the Japanese dialects translates the English word

"busy-ness" to mean "heart-killing"

Some of my past students who know more about language than I do, say that this is not exactly true, but wherever the sentiment comes from, it rings true to me.

The busier and more distracted I become with life, information overload or overwhelming emotions that seem unmanageable, the more I seem to numb out.

It FEELS like "heart-killing" to me regardless of the accuracy of the translation...and I do not want to live there.

The antidote to busy-ness is to slow down and come to your senses!

This season supports us in that.

Let the trees show you how beautiful and courageous it can be to just let go and trust in the cycles of the seasons, the seasons of your life.

Breathe it all in!

AND take advantage of tools like Yoga Nidra and my upcoming workshop!

I've been busy here helping with some new horses and am thankful every day for their solid grounded presence, especially in this unsettled, windy time of year... and life.

They are the best teachers of authenticity and resilience and I am honored to learn from them💖🦄

I'm also excited to be planning a 5 hour workshop for November, integrating mindfulness, energy work, yoga nidra and more!

I'd love for you to join us!

I think of the trees and how simply they let go, let fall the riches of a season, how without grief (it seems) they can let go and go deep into their roots for renewal and sleep ...

Imitate the trees.

Learn to lose in order to recover, and remember that nothing stays the same for long, not even pain, psychic pain.

Sit it out.

Let it all pass.

~ May Sarton

🍂🍂🍂🍂

" 'Slow' and 'down' are modes of the soul; they are connective modes, ways of keeping connected to oneself and to one’s environment. 'Slowing downwards' refers to more than simply moving slowly, it means growing down towards the roots of one’s being. Instead of outward growth and upward climb, life at times must turn inward and downward in order to grow in other ways. There is a shift to the vertical down that re-turns us to root memories, root metaphors, and timeless things that shape our lives from within. Slowing downwards creates opportunities to dwell more deeply in one’s life, for the home we are looking for in this world is within us all along. The lost home that we are seeking is ourselves; it is the story we carry within our soul."
- Michael Meade

This Fall,

Come to your senses!

“Don't you imagine the leaves dream now how comfortable it will be to touch the earth instead of the nothingness of the air and the endless freshets of wind?

And don't you think the trees, especially those with mossy hollows, are beginning to look for the birds that will come - six, a dozen - to sleep inside their bodies?

And don't you hear the goldenrod whispering goodbye, the everlasting being crowned with the first tuffets of snow?

The pond

stiffens and the white field over which the fox runs so quickly brings out its long blue shadows.

The wind wags its many tails. And in the evening the piled firewood shifts a little, longing to be on its way.”

🌻September Musings and Offerings🌻

Sylvester the barn cat napping in his sunflower tent😻

The Autumn Equinox is almost upon us!

This is the time of the final Harvest, the time to reap all that has been sown and to begin to settle in and prepare for the coming winter.

As a long time student of Ayurveda and ancient wisdom traditions, I always find it useful to understand the gifts of the seasons as well as the power of the transitions between them.

In Ayurveda, a 5000+ year old, nature-based healing system, that may well be the root of modern medicine, there are 3 doshas, or constitutions, based upon your unique combination of the 5 elements: Earth,Water, Fire, Air and Space.

Vata is Air and Space. Pitta is Fire and Water. Kapha is Earth and Water.

We all have a birth constitution, and then we can have shifts out of our unique elemental balance with life experiences. You may recognize yourself as you consider the qualities of each of the elements.

This is the basis of this self healing modality, also known as "the Science of Life".

The seasons, times of day and times of life, and all living things are composed of these  5 elements as well.

The autumn season can exacerbate the dosha Vata, which is composed of the elements air and space. In autumn, the air becomes dry and the leaves are light as they are released from the trees.

Each of the 3 doshas has qualities unique to them, and for Vata, the qualities are mobile, changeable, cool and light.

Like increases like...so if you are made mostly of air and space like I am, autumn may cause some imbalances in your mind, body and spirit. For all of us, though, the speed of the world and its stresses can lead many of us to a state of Vata imbalance/excess, even if this is not your primary dosha, especially in these harrowing days.

Vata rules the nervous system, and is the only one of the 3 doshas that moves.

You may recognize these qualities in yourself if you are restless and have a busy mind, or feel as if you are literally blowing in the wind.

Opposites heal and bring balance,

So without knowing any more than this, by paying new attention, you already have tools to shift yourself toward balance when you feel off kilter!

If you are feeling flighty, ground!

If you are moving too fast, Slow down!

It can be that simple...and requires your intentional, present moment, nonjudgmental attention.

Traditional Chinese Medicine is also based on the 5 elements, but differs slightly from Ayurveda.

The 5 elements of TCM are Water, Wood, Fire, Earth and Metal.

While the Equinox and solstice points are ruled by the Earth element, Fall is the realm of the Metal element, which governs the acupuncture meridians Lung and Large Intestine.

Emotionally, Lung in balance shows up as inspiration; out of balance it can manifest as grief. Large intestine in balance manifests as faith, focus and the ability to strive for  perfection; out of balance, it may manifest as difficulty letting go.

Autumn is a season of letting go, as gently and without resistance as the trees drop their leaves.

Fall can be especially hard, therefore if you are a Metal personality or have unresolved grief, or difficulty letting go-of people, things, slights, emotions....or for me-difficulty letting go of the warmth and vibrancy of summer!

So in general, Autumn is challenging for Vatas (but honestly, that includes most of us in this crazy busy world!) and for folks with a predominance of metal in their constitution.

The details and nuances of YOUR constitution are best and most accurately determined by pulse readings by experienced practitioners, but can be discerned to at least some degree thru questionnaires that you may find online as well as your own wisdom.

There is much to study and learn-thousands of years of work- and most of us simply will neither be able to nor desire to become expert in the theories and principles.

But the most important simple, quite revolutionary thing I am inviting you to, is a recognition that when we are "on speed", rushing around, focused on the future, regretting the past, and therefore not being present to this moment, there WILL be imbalances.

The antidote is to SLOW DOWN and pay attention to WHAT is happening rather than WHY it is happening.

Most of this ancient wisdom comes from observation.

If you start to pay attention in a new way, the world opens and there is more information than you can ever notice when rushing around.

Thus the  opportunity to begin healing and balancing is right here in your own presence, in your own hands, in this very moment.

This is of course a very superficial overview of very deep and complex work!

I find it essential, though, to realize that we are all  made of the same elements as nature. And since we are ALL a part of nature, we change as do the seasons, the days, the moments.

Knowing this offers a unique and fresh lens through which to better view and therefore understand ourselves and all our challenges, strengths, joys and sticky places.

Just practice being here now, like this and see what you can learn about yourself.

You are one of a kind which is why, in my humble opinion, "one size fits all" modalities are not likely to work or help. We are each as unique as a fingerprint.

 Don't abandon yourself.

Practice trusting your own insights and wisdom and noticing what is so without judgment.

Start to investigate whether your choices fit you in your uniqueness.

💖If you would like to lean more about Ayurveda and its applications to your life, please scroll down and see 2 new courses offered by my mentor and dear friend, Amadea Morningstar💖

You may be starting to see that both of these ancient wisdom traditions, then, recognize that we as humans seek balance because we ARE nature.

Therefore our work in every season and at all transitions is to relax and release into the natural flow of inevitable change, as effortlessly as the seasons change.

An important part of autumn is grounding. A very simple grounding exercise is to stand on the earth barefoot, especially in the wet grass, as water conducts electricity. The earth is a repository of electrons, negatively charged particles that can neutralize free radicals that can form in the body and disrupt health. We can literally ground ourselves into the support of the earth to bring greater balance!

You may notice your body is called more to root vegetables than salads at this time of year to help ground and warm as the temperatures drop, desiring heavier foods to balance the lightness of the season.

A safe choice is to eat with the seasons. Sweet potatoes are bring dug now...because it is time.

Vata needs to ground and warm to come into balance.

You may find your skin needs more moisturizing as the autumn winds blow.

Listen.

You have the power to heal in your own hands

“Now we will count to twelve
and we will all keep still.

For once on the face of the earth
let's not speak in any language,
let's stop for one second,
and not move our arms so much.

It would be an exotic moment
without rush, without engines,
we would all be together
in a sudden strangeness.

Fishermen in the cold sea
would not harm whales
and the man gathering salt
would look at his hurt hands.

Those who prepare green wars,
wars with gas, wars with fire,
victory with no survivors,
would put on clean clothes
and walk about with their brothers
in the shade, doing nothing.

What I want should not be confused
with total inactivity.
Life is what it is about;
I want no truck with death.

If we were not so single-minded
about keeping our lives moving,
and for once could do nothing,
perhaps a huge silence
might interrupt this sadness
of never understanding ourselves
and of threatening ourselves with death.
Perhaps the earth can teach us
as when everything seems dead
and later proves to be alive.

Now I'll count up to twelve
and you keep quiet and I will go.”

― Pablo Neruda

Yoga nidra is another powerful practice that guides us to a greater place of balance, flow and ease.

It resets the autonomic nervous system so that we start again with a clean and clear slate, releasing the traumas and burdens of the past and worries about the future.

In these current times, it can be difficult to remember that we are a part of a magnificent whole.

Sometimes that energetic interconnectedness means that we take on the anger, angst and fear of the whole, which, when added to our own, can become overwhelming.

Yoga nidra gives us a way to release all that is not ours and, rather than being driven by the "consensus trance", to drop into our deepest truest selves, accessing our own deep wisdom, and planting seeds in the subconscious mind that allow us each to live to our fullest potential.

Then, as the Buddha said, we can aspire

" To be in the world, but not of it"

Work with Me

I've been teaching and learning from Mindfulness for the last 18 years. I'm a 20 year student of Ayurveda and have 5+ years of practice and 2 years of training in Eden Energy medicine,17 years of yoga and yoga nidra teaching and daily ongoing practice in all these modalities and more.

What I have learned is that I have lived much of my life out of touch with my body,  not aligned with my true self and separate from nature. When I started this healing work, there were no mentors for me, perhaps because I didn't  know where to look or more likely, I didn't know to even look at all.

It was not easy, but in the trail blazing on my own, choosing to follow my own intuition about what I needed, I ultimately found mentors that my heart resonated with, learned a lot, embodied what felt true to me and I would love to help you do the same.

My deepest wish, and the true motivation for all my work, is that no one ever feel as alone as I did when I began my healing journey (which is ongoing, by the way 😍)

Learn from Prune Harris

I've been following Prune's energy work for several years.

Her work is transformative, and especially healing and relevant for my tender nervous system.

I had the great honor of interviewing Prune for my 2019 Summit Getting to the Root of Modern Disease.

Watch our interview, Your Bio-Field and You

Prune has an amazing understanding of energy, having been able to see energy for her whole life! Her offerings on her you tube channel are gentle yet powerful and I use her work daily to bring myself toward balance.

Her soft and lovely presence is a balm in itself and her teachings have helped me immensely.

Many of you know that I often share Prune's exercises to settle in before yoga nidra and in mindfulness work.

She is a marvelous human and a fantastic teacher and I am honored to share her current work with you!

An offering from Prune:

If someone asked you to describe your soul, what would you say to them?

You might try to describe your soul with a collection of words such as “happy” or “optimistic” or “sensitive”, for example. But those are words we use to describe our feelings, which may be very different from one day to the next. These words probably aren’t so useful to describe the enduring characteristics of our souls.

Prune says that a soul is a form of energy… and energy is vibration… and every vibration has its own frequency and wavelength… and those properties give vibrations COLOUR. Prune is able to see people’s soul energy the moment she looks at them. It’s amazing and quite rare.

You may be wondering, what colour is your soul? And what does it mean if your soul is red, orange, yellow, green, blue, or violet? Or a more unusual colour such as deep indigo, silver, or even opalescent?

Here’s the great news! Prune has decided to share her insights about soul colour with the world.

With this book, you’ll have a guide not only to your own soul colour, but also to the likely soul colours of the people around you -- making it easier for you to understand their strengths, challenges, and ways of being in the world.

Click the image below to receive your free ebook!

Prune also has some amazing offerings coming up that I will share with you in the coming weeks

Her work is truly transformative and I cannot recommend it enough!

"We were not meant to live shallow lives, pocked by meaningless routines and the secondary satisfactions of happy hour.

We are the inheritors of an amazing lineage, rippling with memories of life lived intimately with bison and gazelle, raven and the night sky.

We are designed to encounter this life with amazement and wonder, not resignation and endurance.

This is at the very heart of our grief and sorrow. T

he dream of full-throated living, woven into our very being, has often been forgotten and neglected, replaced by a societal fiction of productivity and material gain.

No wonder we seek distractions.

Every sorrow we carry extends from the absence of what we require to stay

engaged in this one wild and precious life".

~ Francis Weller

I wish you an autumn season rich with inspiration, the easy release of all that keeps you too small, and a deep reengagement with yourself and nature.

Learn to be YOU

Let go of all that does not serve or honor you in your uniqueness.

Learn to trust you body and intuition.

You are the one who knows you best!

Listen to your own deep wisdom.

As you actively participate in your own healing, you will feel yourself remembering the truth of who you really are.

Come now into your fullest magnificent glory

I am grateful for you!

🌺July Musings and Offerings🌺

The times are urgent

Let us slow down

~Bayo Akomolafe

I'm not sure there is anything else to say this month...

this is everything.

I am personally finding that slowing down is imperative in navigating these tempestuous times.

Not easy, but essential; counterintuitive, yet necessary

What I wish most deeply for all of us is to remember who we are and what we believe in while remembering that that we are all part of a a bigger whole.

To begin to act and speak in a way that honors everyone.

To look around and see the ill effects of living/speaking/acting from a place of fear, judgment, unrecognized/unhealed trauma and sorrow.

And to let that inspire each of us to do our own deep healing work so that we do not contribute to the dis-ease and despair in the world.

There is more than enough of that already

Let's actively engage in revitalizing an inclusive, respectful and curious way of living so that it becomes manifest-not just for you but for all of us.

To deeply feel, as Naomi Shihab Nye shares in her stunningly beautiful poem below, that

"...before you know kindness as the deepest thing inside, you must know sorrow as the other deepest thing...you must wake up with sorrow and speak to it, until your voice catches the thread of all sorrow and you can see the size of the cloth".

To do that, you MUST see that it could be you.

Everything.

Anything.

Given the "right" circumstances, we are all capable of everything-the things we fear and despise, and the things we revere.

It is up to us to decide to let

kindness, the only thing that makes sense anymore,

direct your actions and thoughts, your prayers and choices.

In yoga nidra, the sankalpa is an intention, a resolution, a seed to plant in the subconscious mind that creates strength and will be a benefit, when manifest, for you and for all with whom you share life.

Every experience we have, recognized or not, makes an impression, leaves an imprint in the subconscious mind.

If we are unaware of the impressions planted from the overwhelming amount of information of daily life, and we don't take time to clear, or get truly restorative sleep, they can begin to rule, crowding out our unique purpose like weeds overtake a garden.

We begin to live unconsciously and forget that we each have a unique and precious gift to share, a gift like no other.

We are ALL essential here.

Now is the time to work to create the more beautiful world we know/dream is possible by being clearer with our intentions and making sure they are big enough to encompass and include all of us, respecting our individual sacred uniqueness!

Use your anger and frustration to guide you

but do not be driven by it.

Use your fear to become fearless.

Let your grief wash through you.

Release emotional blocks, old pains and traumas to reestablish flow and resilience.

Learn to be YOU in your fullest most magnificent glory

To really do this necessary work requires stillness and deep settling, so that we can see and hear what is called for.

To let the DOING, then, come from the BEING

Make haste slowly and thoughtfully

The times ARE urgent

SLOW DOWN

🙏💖

One really good way to slow down, set intentions and remember is Yoga Nidra

Work with me

I continue to offer individual zoom sessions simply because I think we all need to be seen and heard right now.

Most of us struggle to re-member who we are here to be.

It is my opinion that we are increasingly getting tangled in the complex energy of the collective and thinking it is all ours-the grief, the fear, the despair.

Our time together sorts this out, offers time to be heard and explore what is yours to heal...and what not.

I pull all my training and practices together to create tools that are useful for you, wherever you are in your healing journey!

If this resonates with you, please click the  button below for more information.

Work with me

🙏💖🙏💖🙏💖

The poem "Kindness " by Naomi Shahib Nye has always been a favorite-I loved hearing her read it in this video-Enjoy!

"I am making a home inside myself.

A shelter of kindness where everything is forgiven, everything allowed—a quiet patch of sunlight to stretch out without hurry,

where all that has been banished

and buried is welcomed, spoken, listened to—released.

A fiercely friendly place I can claim as my very own.

I am throwing arms open

to the whole of myself—especially the fearful,

fault-finding, falling apart, unfinished parts, knowing

every seed and weed, every drop of rain, has made the soil richer.

I will light a candle, pour a hot cup of tea, gather

around the warmth of my own blazing fire. I will howl

if I want to, knowing this flame can burn through

any perceived problem, any prescribed perfectionism,

any lying limitation, every heavy thing.

I am making a home inside myself

where grace blooms in grand and glorious

abundance, a shelter of kindness that grows

all the truest things.

I whisper hallelujah to the friendly sky.

Watch now as I burst into blossom."

~Julia Fehrenbacher

In the midst of the fires of confusion, despair, fear and disagreement in our world, may we all agree to "create a shelter of kindness that grows all the truest of things" as a healing balm for ourselves and this fragmented world.

Let the fiery energy of summer burn through the fog and

rekindle your joy, remind you of your sacred medicine and inspire you to shine and share kindness wherever you go

We are the ones we have been waiting for.

Show up in your fullest most magnificent glory

It is time-but move slowly and thoughtfully in these urgent times

Set big intentions to do your personal healing, always knowing that it ripples out to heal the bigger wounds of the world.

And be kind to yourself and everybody.

The Dalai Lama says

"Be kind whenever possible.

It is always possible."

🐝June Musings and Offerings🐝

My apologies for a late newsletter-I've had an experience to remember.

Short story is I suffered a bad cat bite breaking up a fight between 2 of my cats who are not friends, which led to 2+ weeks of not having full use of my right hand.

With that, though, came much insight, healing, clarity and gratitude. I had planned for a retreat of sorts for that week which was my birthday....just not like that!

The thing is I'm not much for asking for help, but I knew that this was beyond my medical capacity, especially with only 1 hand.

So I searched out a former trusted resident who is now an acclaimed hand surgeon who agreed to see me on the 20th anniversary of the very day I closed my surgery practice. Very interesting synchronicity. I had totally forgotten. He was so kind and it was wonderful to see him.

There were a lot of tears when he said that he often thought of all the things I taught him, surgical techniques, yes, but mostly, he said, how to really take good care of patients.

That was a surprise to me... to realize that all this time, I had (mistakenly) thought that my time in practice, my teaching did not matter.

But in those moments, on that auspicious day, I am sure there was as much heart healing as there was physical healing as he tended my wounds-both of heart and hand.

The worst of the injury was at the base of the thumb and index finger.

In Chinese medicine, this is the area of Lung (thumb on palm side) and large intestine meridians (index finger, back of hand side).

I had been working with these meridians, which are governed by the element Metal, and had found them to be out of balance for a while now.

Curiously, (or not), Lung out of balance can be experienced as grief; Large intestine out of balance as difficulty letting go...Hmmmm.

I never dismiss such associations because they are always teachings for me.

So I was able to use my injury as a metaphor, as a vehicle for healing deep, old wounds. A healing retreat after all, albeit different than I may have planned!

For weeks, I sat, and tended, rested and practiced non-doing.

It was challenging and frustrating and memorable and necessary and deeply healing.

And I am beyond grateful for the lessons that this hard stop brought... and for the gifts of hands and those who tend them🙏💕🙏💕

I'm on the mend physically, though slowly, now, but I am certain that as much healing came from my friend/doc's kindness and my submission to what was needed as anything.

Slowing it all down to a near stop was both delicious and challenging.

Yet now, I find that I do NOT want to speed up again...thus the delayed newsletter🙃 (that and having only 1 working hand).

I'm learning that healing happens on its own timeline in every way, on all levels.

Some insights and learnings:

Don't ever underestimate the power of a kind word or the power of a memory to open a door to deep healing.

Don't refuse the opportunity to heal if it arises-no matter how hard it may seem

Don't wait until you are forced to to slow down-slow down NOW!

Practice being here NOW with things as they are

Let life soften and open your heart

Look for the lesson, the gift in the challenge

Tell people that they matter even if you think they know

Thanks from my heart (and my hand), Dr. Raymond Wittstadt🙏💕

Practicing not-doing means the causes and conditions that create many problems and struggles vanish. No solution needs to be found, no cure discovered, and no help is even necessary. That’s why the Buddhist tradition is grounded in not-doing—because so much of the suffering in the world could be entirely alleviated if we simply didn’t cause it.

💐Work With Me💐

As the world continues to spin out of control, you may feel that you are losing your way.

It is my experience and opinion that in these times, those of us who believe in something bigger, deeper, stronger and more inclusive are increasingly disheartened and overwhelmed...

especially when we feel as if we are alone.

BUT you are NOT alone!

This seems especially true for all of the caregivers in the world-whether personal or professional. In fact, we are all caregivers!

We just need to remember to give ourselves the same good care as we offer others that we love.

Let's work together and forge deep connections so that we can each identify and then deliver our unique medicine to the world.

Please reach out and let's create safe growing space😍

** PLEASE NOTE*** Several of you have reached out for sessions and I have not heard back from you.

I have discovered that many of my emails were being sent to junk folders as "unverified"-I have been answering you but we are not connecting!

🤞I have addressed this and hope that this is now resolved💖

In the meantime, PLEASE check junk if you were waiting for a response for me and let's connect-

I appreciate your patience and apologize for making you think I wasn't here for you- I am!!

Work with me

It seems that the number of of difficult and challenging things happening in the world are beyond imagining. You know what they are and how deeply they touch you.

All I can say is don't give up

Refuse to become despondent

Now is the time to get to know yourself and discover what really matters to you

Find out who you are, what you need to be your best self and live it out loud.

Let's create a new world view that works for all of us!

It all starts by changing how you think...let's do it together!

Things to Think

Think in ways you’ve never thought before

If the phone rings, think of it as carrying a message

Larger than anything you’ve ever heard,

Vaster than a hundred lines of Yeats.

Think that someone may bring a bear to your door,

Maybe wounded and deranged: or think that a moose

Has risen out of the lake, and he’s carrying on his antlers

A child of your own whom you’ve never seen.

When someone knocks on the door, think that he’s about

To give you something large: tell you you’re forgiven,

Or that it’s not necessary to work all the time, or that it’s

Been decided that if you lie down no one will die.

-Robert Bly

You can relish a rainbow and a cup of tea, sunrise and a flock of birds, a cemetery walk and a friend’s newborn, the first blush of wildflowers in a patch of dirt and the looping rapture of an old favorite song. You can’t tidy up the White House, but you can tidy up that neglected messy corner of your home; you can’t mend a world, but you can mend the hole in the polka-dot pocket of your favorite coat. They are not the same thing, but they are part of the same thing, which is all there is — life living itself through us, moment by moment, one broken beautiful thing at a time.

~From Maria Popova- The Marginalian 5/16/22

My DNA results came in.

Just as I suspected,

my great great grandfather

was a monarch butterfly.

Much of who I am is still

wriggling under a stone.

I am part larva, but

part hummingbird too.

There is dinosaur tar in

my bone marrow.

My golden hair sprang out

of a meadow in Palestine.

Genghis Khan is my fourth cousin,

but I didn't get his dimples.

My loins are loaded with

banyan seeds from Sri Lanka,

but I descended from Ravanna,

not Ram.

My uncle is a mastodon.

There are traces of white people

in my saliva.

3.7 billion years ago I swirled

in hydrogen dust,

dreaming of a planet overgrown

with lingams and yonis.

More recently, say 60,000 B.C.

I walked on hairy paws

across a land bridge

joining Sweden to Botswana.

I am the bastard of the sun and moon.

I can no longer hide my heritage of

raindrops and cougar scat.

My mud was molded with your grandmother's tears.

I was the brother

who marched you to the sea

and sold you.

I was the merchant from Savannah

and the cargo of blackness.

I was the chain.

Admit it, you have wings,

vast and crystal,

like mine, like mine.

You have sweat, dark and salty,

like mine, like mine.

You have secrets silently

singing in your blood,

like mine, like mine.

Don't pretend that earth

is not one family.

Don't pretend we never hung

from the same branch.

Don't pretend we do not ripen

on each other's breath.

Don't pretend we didn't

come here to forgive.

~"Ancestry" by Fred LaMotte

May we use the fiery energy of the solstice and summertime to remember, to forgive, to love and to come fully to life-for the good of us all

Let's get to work to save your life, the world, each other

But let's not burn out trying to save it all-find your medicine and commit to your path with joy.

Be grateful for all who are doing what you cannot

Every single light matters

I love you

I trust you

I honor you in your unique medicine

Let's all balance and shine

Wishing you a glorious, abundant, deeply healing Solstice

💕🌱March Musings and Offerings🌱💕

March, Spring Equinox,Chaos, Change...

Late winter always brings hope, perseverance, and a quickening, within which is

an awareness of the value of waiting just a little longer, conserving just enough energy to burst forth in full abundance.

There is inevitable chaos in this bursting forth.

This year, it brings even more than the usual chaos and confusion, in the form of divisiveness, polarization... and unnecessary and unfathomable war.

My heart breaks to see the blatant and unthinkable hatred and violence being perpetrated upon the people of Ukraine.

In this tumultuous season of transformation, I hold deep hope in my heart that love will prevail in the world and this war will end rapidly and peacefully.

I send my love, deep respect and care to those suffering in Ukraine...and know that there are many other known and unknown-to-me people and places also in strife, with innumerable people suffering and fearful.

It is difficult not to collapse in despair. We are all so tired.

Yet I am inspired and uplifted by the courage of the Ukranian people.

I know that, while I cannot stop the war, and may not know what to do to help, I can work to heal the conflict in myself and in my community.

I can seek to offer kindness and compassion and refuse to give in to hatred and violence that can arise because we are so very tired, and so often afraid.

May we all realize that our individual intention to bring forth love and healing will feed the collective consciousness.

Let's work to fill the collective field with love and light-

but not in a way that spiritually bypasses the horror.

Here is a powerful perspective from Buddhist teacher Joan Halifax Roshi

Bearing Witness to Ukraine's Suffering

We practice to settle our nervous systems in order to remain clear headed and devoted to whatever work must be done to create the loving, peaceful and inclusive world that we know is possible, even though, at the moment, it may seem elusive.

We each have a unique and special gift.

To develop it and offer it is our purpose.

If we all do our part, we can change the world.

Watch people rising up for what matters, for kindness and sovereignty, refusing to be dominated by evil and greed.

It is clearly happening in Ukraine, and I am humbled to be a witness to the courage and true warriorship they are exhibiting.

May I find the courage to be so bold and sure.🌱💕

~ Mari Andrew

💕I offer these humble and bumbly words from my confused human heart, with deep respect, love and the certainty that they are completely inadequate for the gravity of what is happening in Ukraine-and around the world.

I acknowledge the many things that I may never know or understand.

I know for certain that I do not really know at all.

I also know that I really, really care.

💕

Meanwhile, this is a somber time of reevaluation;

remembering and honoring all that is being threatened,

grieving all that has been lost,

and restoring hope in all that can be.
Unbearable and remarkable all at once.

🌱💕

“later that night
i held an atlas in my lap
ran my fingers across the whole world
and whispered
where does it hurt?
it answered
everywhere

everywhere
everywhere.”

~ Warshan Shire

💕🌱💕🌱💕🌱

May you never be subservient.

May you never fall prey to fitting in.

May you always swirl in all the directions the sacred winds want to take you.

May you never hush your laughter or your tears.

May you breathe without restriction.

May you show up every single day to the calling that is you

and may you always know the courage of your heart.

~ Fig Ally

💕🌱💕🌱💕🌱💕🌱💕🌱

Please do not underestimate the necessity of deep and restorative rest in these challenging times.

We are all related.

It is time to devote to our healing work for the benefit of all💕🙏

I know it may seem counterintuitive, but we must restore and renew to have the energy needed to engage in the essential and difficult world work that we are being called to do.

I hold fast to my belief that yoga nidra is exactly the deeply healing medicine needed for these times of deep chaos and infinite possibility.

We practice for all of us.

💕A Heartfelt Practice for all of us💕

Heart Light Meditation

A scientifically controlled study conducted by German researchers at the University of Kassel has shown that while the chest area of an average person emits only 20 photons of light per second, someone who meditates on their heart center and sends love and light to others emits an amazing 100,000 photons per second. That is 5000 times more than the average human being. Numerous studies have also shown that when these photons are infused with a loving and healing intent, their frequency and vibration increases to the point where they can literally change matter, heal disease, and transform negative events.

Ten minutes of meditating on compassion,

on kindness for others,

and you will see its effects all day.

That’s the way to maintain

a calm and joyous mind.”

From The Book of Joy: Lasting Happiness

in a Changing World" by Dalai Lama

“I cannot tell you

how the light comes.

What I know

is that it is more ancient

than imagining.

That it travels

across an astounding expanse

to reach us.

That it loves

searching out

what is hidden

what is lost

what is forgotten

or in peril

or in pain.

That it has a fondness

for the body

for finding its way

toward flesh

for tracing the edges

of form

for shining forth

through the eye,

the hand,

the heart.

I cannot tell you

how the light comes,

but that it does.

That it will.

That it works its way

into the deepest dark

that enfolds you,

though it may seem

long ages in coming

or arrive in a shape

you did not foresee.

And so

may we this day

turn ourselves toward it.

May we lift our faces

to let it find us.

May we bend our bodies

to follow the arc it makes.

May we open

and open more

and open still

to the blessed light

that comes.”

—Jan Richardson

Wishing you a joyful, transformative and enlightening spring.

Let your heart light burst forth for the good of all of us

Open more and more and still more

Let there be peace on earth- and let it begin with you

We are all ready for deep transformative change in this world

Be the Change you wish to see

To the courageous people of Ukraine, and to all of you:

I see you💕

Thank you🙏

I love you🌻

🎉Welcome to the New Year🎉

It has been a long, challenging year...again...and perhaps you feel as grouchy and tired as this bluebird seems to be.

Yet I often need to remind myself (and all of us) that while we cannot always change WHAT is happening, we always have the power to change how we relate to whatever is happening.

Every new year begins as a series of new moments.

Actually, every single moment is brand new and has never before been, will never be again. Same for each breath.

It is worthy to remember that life unfolds one precious moment at a time.

Our work is to attend to each moment as if it is as new and fresh and never before experienced as it really is!

This requires us to try to avoid pre-living life or succumbing to a continuation of past despair by deliberately offering some attention to what is NOT wrong rather than only attending to what seems to be wrong again/still.

This is a life's practice for sure.

A very worthy one.

Let's commit to it this year!

💕🙏

The Unbroken

There is a brokenness
out of which comes the unbroken,
a shatteredness
out of which blooms the unshatterable.
There is a sorrow
beyond all grief which leads to joy
and a fragility
out of whose depths emerges strength.
There is a hollow space too vast for words
through which we pass with each loss,
out of whose darkness we are sanctioned into being.
There is a cry deeper than all sound
whose serrated edges cut the heart
as we break open
to the place inside which is unbreakable
and whole
while learning to sing.

~ Rashani Rea

In this new year, may we all be inspired to embrace the unbrokenness in ourselves and others and sing ourselves back to life... as a gift for all beings everywhere, without exception💕🙏

Dr. David Permutter reports that a study out of England in 2013 found that a week of sleep deprivation can alter the function of 711 genes, including those involved in stress, immunity, metabolism, and inflammation. There are many more such studies that agree.

One choice can affect 700+ outcomes.

Knowing this, what will you choose?

Busy-ness, fear and worry? Or deep restorative rest?

What if time out of this busy-mindedness and speedy living is, as Thoreau says, not a waste, but actually "over and above your usual allotment"?

I deeply and respectfully invite you to Yoga Nidra.

One hour out of your day can turn off the fight/flight/freeze response and restore energy and resources to all of your restorative functions-like digestion, hormonal balance, cardiovascular health and immunity.

I continue to offer it because I know it is an essential tool in your immune, spiritual, mental and emotional healing toolbox.

I add energy work and meditation at the beginning of each yoga nidra practice to deepen your experience.

❄️Individual Guidance via Zoom❄️

This prolonged time of isolation and social distancing has taken a toll on all of us.

My individual sessions are tailored to meet you wherever you are, to offer you tools to calm and heal the nervous system and empower you to work with the traumas, both large and small, of these tumultuous times and of life in general.

Using a combination of mindfulness, energy medicine and western science, we can navigate to a place of greater ease and power.

Let's work together to remember and embrace the unbrokenness that lives within, to allow it all , the "full catastrophe", and then to use what we learn to come more fully to life

🙏💕

❄️Here is a beautiful new poem from Amanda Gorman💕🙏

Amanda Gorman New Day's Lyric

I'm not much for the usual new year's resolutions.

But I do wish for all of us to tap into our hidden and unrealized potentials and to embrace and embody our unique gifts.

We all long for, and clearly need, inspiration and fresh ideas to create the kind, loving, sustainable, compassionate, inclusive and respectful world that we know in our hearts is possible.

Let's set a collective intention to consciously and intentionally create open space in which to be inspired and let's agree to be courageous enough to rise above the fear and false limitations that keep our inner sparks from igniting.

In this time of winter stillness, may we each rest deeply and dream into the depth of our deepest waters of creativity, light and love.

Tend the fires of possibility and begin the tender process of becoming fully and unapologetically YOU.

We all need you.

The world awaits your unique song to help sing us into a higher, kinder reality.

"...may this be the year we come together..."

and may our heart songs ripple into the world for the good of all💙

take gentle care

✨December Musings and Offerings✨

Warm Holiday Greetings to all of you!

✨ I am so looking forward to the return of the light-in every way!✨

These have been very challenging times for all of us, for so very long now, and I wish for all of us to work diligently to grow rather than shrink through them.

As we approach the Winter Solstice, I'm thinking about how I might stoke the fire of my inner light so that I can shine more brightly

I invite you to join me so we can all shine together.

Now is the time to find your path and shine your gifts into the world for the benefit of all of us. The winter season of rest and restoration is essential for the deep necessity of this work.

We each have our own individual healing work to do, our own path to tread, yet although the journey is unique for each of us, it is important to realize that we are on a collective journey as well.

We are each an essential part of a whole and so are never alone.

Every step toward healing that you take is a step forward for all of humanity.

What a gift your healing brings!

I'm always inspired by the inimitable Joanna Macy.

Her Five Vows seem like a worthy aspiration for moving forward into a new healing year with more light, kindness, love and and clarity for ourselves, each other and the world💕🙏

So much is known, at least in the complimentary and ancient medicine realms, about the role of rest, meditation, energy work, diet and stress management in maintaining health and well being.

This pandemic has brought that truth home for me more than ever, though there is far less attention to this than I would like in the western medical model.

There are so many simple ways that we can help ourselves stay well and increase resilience . As you know, deep restorative rest is at the top of my list, as is meditation and energy work and healthy eating...there is so much we can do!

Fear robs us of our restorative functions.

In this years long state of chronic fear and worry, all resources are preferentially diverted toward survival rather than healing. There is no resting or digesting in a state of chronic stress.

I've heard chronic stress aptly described as "highly well armored hopelessness". I've known this place far too well and I'm betting some of you do too.

Please do not underestimate the detrimental effects of living in fear for the last 3 years...(likely longer than that if not a lifetime for many of us!).

Even if you have managed to NOT live in fear (congratulations🎉), don't forget that we are ALL affected by the energy of the collective, whether negative or positive. And we can always use more love😍

We live in a world of outrageous pain.

The only response to outrageous pain is outrageous love

~Marc Gafni

One of the simplest and often forgotten things we can do to maintain health and well being is to be sure to get plenty of deep restorative rest. Interrupting the busy-ness is a challenge for many of us but the benefits are enormous!

Give yourself the gift of yoga nidra to empower your journey.

I invite you to try yoga nidra daily for a week or two (or more) to see how powerful it really is!

Join us for a live session and receive a recording that you can use again and again, or visit my website store for a free rainbow yoga nidra and/or many more options.

🎁A gift for you:

23 minute Loving Kindness meditation

yet another way to support yourself and all of us🙏

Yoga Nidra is truly an integral part of the transformative work we all need and long for.

It is good medicine and yes, an outrageous gift of love!

In Any Event

If we are fractured

we are fractured

like stars

bred to shine

in every direction,

through any dimension,

billions of years

since and hence.

I shall not lament

the human, not yet.

There is something

more to come, our hearts

a gold mine

not yet plumbed,

an uncharted sea.

Nothing is gone forever.

If we came from dust

and will return to dust

then we can find our way

into anything.

What we are capable of

is not yet known,

and I praise us now,

in advance.

Individual Guidance via Zoom

Give yourself or a loved one the gift of guidance in these life changing times.

My intention in this offering is simply to hold reflective space so that you can see your light.

Finding a trusted empathic witness has been essential for me in my healing journey. I'd be honored to hold that space for you.

Together we can plumb the depths of your heart so that you can remember the unique gifts that you are here to share

You WILL shine again...or maybe find your light for the first time.

"What if you are the Light?

What if you're the agent of illumination a dark situation begs for?

Anyone can be the Light, at any moment.

I can’t personally end all wars, solve global warming, or transform vexing people.

But I do have some influence on everyone I brush up against. No matter who you are, or how tough your situation seems, I believe you can illuminate your world.

I believe it's the only way the world will ever be illuminated... one bright act of grace at a time."

~Elizabeth Gilbert

May you grow still enough to hear the small noises earth makes in preparing for the long sleep of winter, so that you yourself may grow calm and grounded deep within.

May you grow still enough to hear the trickling of water seeping into the ground, so that your soul may be softened and healed, and guided in its flow.

May you grow still enough to hear the splintering of starlight in the winter sky and the roar at earth's fiery core.

May you grow still enough to hear the stir of a single snowflake in the air, so that your inner silence may turn into hushed expectation.

~ Brother David Steindl-Rast

🍂October Musings and Offerings🍂

Warm October Greetings to you all!

I hope that you are all faring well in this transitional time.

One simple yet powerful way to help you manage transitions and maintain balance is to take advantage of yoga nidra for deep rest.

It is my belief that there is so much more than we know/are being told we can do to try to stay well in these challenging times.

Deep balancing, restorative rest for your nervous and immune systems is some of the best medicine ever.

There is increasing realization of the detrimental effects of stress and anxiety on our mental, emotional and physical health especially now.

So please-try the free Rainbow yoga nidra, and/or the free Beach yoga nidra on my you tube channel. You may purchase more yoga nidra and meditation mp3s here and please consider joining us soon for a live zoom class!

Rest deeply while giving your nervous and immune systems the reboot they need!

Anne Lamott says

"Everything works better when you unplug it for a bit-

even you!"

Here I am again reminding you of why we practice:

There should be at least a room, or some corner where no one will find you and disturb you or notice you.

You should be able to untether yourself from the world and set yourself free, loosing all the fine strings and strands of tension that bind you, by sight, by sound, by thought, to the presence of other people.

~ Thomas Merton

The transition through autumn into winter brings the opportunity for deep introspection.

Autumn is the season of letting go and processing grief as gently as the trees release their leaves, softly and without regret. While grieving actual losses is important, I have found it equally important and necessary to give some time and space to grieving that which you may have needed and yet did not have. This gives you insight and information about how to craft your path going forward. Only by being honest and clear about what you need can you expect to get those needs met.

As always, nature teaches and heals. Go outside and watch how gracefully the Earth moves through the seasons and emulate her. This moment is just like this. Breathe and release and start again. Each moment brings a new chance to come to life. Be here now.

In the 5 Element Theory of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Autumn is represented by the element Metal, which is related to the organs Lung and Large Intestine. Lung in balance is literally inspired; out of balance, grief rules. Large intestine in balance looks for the light, has faith; out of balance may have difficulty letting go.

What inspires you? Knowing this will help you find your sacred path and share your gifts.

What needs to be let go? Grieving losses and turning them into life lessons helps your heart break open.

We have the opportunity in each moment to empower or disempower ourselves. Let autumn inspire you to deliberately and consciously turn inward and consider what really matters to you, what you want to bring into the world and what to leave behind as you move forward.

Let there be a season

when holiness is heard,

and the splendor of living is revealed.

Stunned to stillness by beauty

we remember who we are

and why we are here …

~ Rebecca Parker

🍂Individual Guidance Via Zoom🍂

One size fits all guidance is not what is called for in these critical, transformative times. We are each amazing and unique individuals with sacred gifts. Our only work in life is to find and be who we are here in this lifetime to be.

If you are blazing your own trail, or trying to find your way through the wilderness and you wish for support, I would be honored to be that support and share what I have learned so far on my journey.

It is my deepest heart wish that no one feel unseen, unheard or alone in any way.

🍂

when the world

goes mad

be wildly kind

to everyone

everyone

everyone

everyone

you can’t control

much

but you control how

you treat others

in these breaking news

heartbreaking times

when nothing feels

certain

let your raw kindness

be a certainty

allow your compassion

to become a North Star

stamped up in

the sky for

others to follow

back home

~ John Roedel

Take gentle care and be wildly kind to yourself-and then let that wild kindness spill out into the world.

I wish you the courage to be inspired, to let go of resistance and surrender to this moment as it is

Nothing is ever lost-the released energy is compost for the universe.

All is sacred in the cycle of the seasons and life

Sending you wishes for deep healing, release and sweet, sweet rest

Love

gina
